All hail King Heisenberg!

So, I finally caught up with one of AMC's hit series, 'Breaking Bad'. I meant to watch this show however, since I saw its rating on IMDB was quite impressive: 9,4. But I have never got the time to download and watch it anyway.

And since I had become less interested in some shows I was currently watching -- i found 'Revenge' was way over complicated and absurd on late episodes, 'Once Upon a Time' started to show some flaws in story, effect, and the acting from its casts, and 'Glee' at last really portrait the confusion of a showrunner to focus on a storyline -- then I decided it was time to check on this people's-talk-about-a lot series. And it turned out to be a right decision after all.

The pilot was really got me hooked. Bryan Cranston truly did a great job of playing an underachiever chemistry genius (no wonder he got 3 consecutive Emmies for this role). Started with a character who took shits from everyone, Walter White -- the role Cranston played -- hit his turning point when he diagnosed for lung cancer.

The thought of death coming on his way anytime soon, made Walter realized that he actually had done nothing in his life, especially in term of financial security for his family. So, as an overqualified chemistry high school teacher, Walter determined to turn his life with the only way he knows best: making crystal meth.

The opportunity came when he accidentally bumped into his former student/ drugs dealer, Jesse Pinkman in the middle of the meth lab's raid operated by DEA. With his partner got caught and Walter became a witness of his involvement, Jesse agreed to make Walter partner in his meth business. And so their journey began.

It was quiet thrilling and exciting to see how they overcome the obstacles to sell their products, since they were both lack of link, power, and violence (well, at least on the beginning of the story). But thanks to Walter's brilliancy, they always succeed to avoid such havoc that could lead both characters to death or more precisely, get killed. But don't worry,, the viewers would still experience edge-of-your-seat moment in most episodes.

What I love about this show is how each of the characters grow and transform into a totally different person. Walter, for once was a shy, decent man whom people never thought would capable of doing such criminal things in his life. He was the type of guy who stays under the radar, never gets attention, even if in fact he was quite a genius himself. But then, as the story unfold, Walter who came up with a street name 'Heisenberg', transforms into a relentless figure, master of manipulation, who is willing to axed anyone who's standing in his way.

His wife's character, Skyler White was evolving as well. At the beginning of the story, viewers recognized her as a loving wife and a caring mother for a disabled son. When she found out about her husband's involvement in drug's business, she was really furious and reluctant, she proposed a divorce from Walter. But then, when Walter got more involved with the bad guys and started jeopardize his life for the business, Skyler's heart was soften and she even helped Walter to launder his money with her expertise in accounting and financial management. Skyler then played a quiet crucial part in Walter's criminal business and the viewers could see her evolved from an ordinary housewife to a cautious, cunning, and even manipulative woman to keep Walter's business rolling.

Despite all of the plus points, i do have some complains though. I found the writers really like to linger on certain issue, make the plot feels too long and sometimes boring. I also expected more scenes and storyline which explored Walter's cunning in some tight-corner situation. Maybe something more like Michael Scofield's on Prison Break. Too bad, the writers didn't give much scenes about that.

But overall, I concur that 'Breaking Bad' is profoundly deserves its rating on IMDB, along with numerous awards this show has gotten. And the fact that the creator, Vince Gilligan has decided to end this show on season 5 in which it still has a great storyline to tell, proved a point that he wasn't a typical pricks who tends to renew some show just to get bigger money from a greater audiences. This way, people will remember Breaking Bad as a kick-ass, out-of-the-box TV series with wonderful casts for years. Salute.
